CUMBERLAND, Sept. 23 — Cumberland came up a goal short against Barrington on Wednesday night, falling 3–2 at Tucker Field. The result stings, but the Clippers put two goals past a Division I opponent that has won four of its six league matches this season.

Barrington has earned wins over East Greenwich, Portsmouth and Tolman, and entered this matchup with a winning league record. The Eagles have also faced Bishop Hendricken and South Kingstown. Cumberland made them work for Wednesday’s result and showed it can find the net against a solid division opponent.

The Clippers are now 2–6–2 overall. They need a win, but there is something to carry forward from scoring twice and staying within a goal of Barrington. The next chance to turn that effort into a result comes quickly—and against a familiar opponent. Cumberland and North Providence played to a 2–2 draw on Monday. This time, the Clippers get that matchup at home, with an opportunity to build on what they started and take another step in the right direction.

Next game: Cumberland hosts North Providence on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m.
