The Cumberland Clippers boys soccer team responded to a difficult result with a stronger performance Monday night, earning a 2–2 draw against North Providence.

Junior Caleb Moran supplied both Cumberland goals, while Manuel Morales assisted on each score. Goalkeeper Aiden Sayama played the full 80 minutes as the Clippers secured a point on the road and improved their overall record to 2–5–2.

Cumberland entered the match looking to regroup following a 6–0 loss to Lincoln. Instead of allowing that performance to carry into Monday, the Clippers rediscovered some of the offensive production that helped them earn consecutive 3–2 victories over Shea and Tolman earlier in the season.

North Providence entered the match at 1–5 and had struggled to find consistent results, making this a game Cumberland had every reason to believe it could compete in. The Clippers did exactly that. Although they may feel there was an opportunity to earn all three points, scoring twice and securing a road result represented an encouraging response from a team working to regain its rhythm.

The Cougars reached the Division II championship match last season, but their early results have shown a team still searching for its form in 2026. For Cumberland, the greater significance of Monday’s match was the ability to answer adversity and produce a competitive, composed performance away from home.

Moran’s two-goal performance and Morales’ creativity provided an encouraging glimpse of what the Clippers’ attack can produce. Cumberland has now scored multiple goals in three of its last four matches, showing offensive progress as the team works toward greater consistency across a full 80 minutes.

The 2–2 draw gave the Clippers a positive result to build upon during a busy portion of their schedule. Cumberland is scheduled to host Barrington at 6:30 p.m. on September 23 before welcoming North Providence for a 3:30 p.m. rematch on September 26.

That second meeting will give the Clippers an immediate opportunity to build on Monday’s performance and turn a competitive road draw into an even stronger result at home.
