Cumberland has found itself in a tough spot, but this game has not been without encouraging signs. The Clippers have moved the football, connected on several throws downfield and showed they have enough speed and playmaking ability to strike quickly.
The biggest Cumberland moment came when quarterback Brady Smith found Jayden Rabbitt on an inside shovel pass that Rabbitt took 65 yards for a touchdown. Smith has also connected with Nathan Goodrich to move the chains, Ethan Delgado-Rolland for 20 yards down the sideline and Izik Supple for multiple first-down gains—including a beautifully placed ball for more than 20 yards.
Delgado-Rolland has made his presence felt on defense as well. He stopped a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage and followed it with a third-down pass breakup. Those are the kinds of individual plays Cumberland can build around.
Where the game has turned
North Kingstown has done most of its damage on explosive plays. The Skippers broke a touchdown run by Nick Stafford, connected on scoring passes over the middle and later found the left edge for a long touchdown run. Cumberland has competed down to down, but those sudden strikes have changed the direction of the game.
Offensively, multiple high snaps have interrupted Cumberland’s rhythm. A missed blocking assignment also left Smith exposed for a sack after the Clippers had driven into scoring range. Cumberland created another opportunity with strong throws to Delgado-Rolland and Supple, but the possession ended with a missed field goal.
What Cumberland needs from here
The formula is fairly clear: settle the snaps, communicate the blocking assignments and force North Kingstown to earn its yards without giving up another explosive play. The Clippers do not need to reinvent anything. They have already shown the passing game can stretch the field and that their playmakers can turn one clean opportunity into points.
Cumberland has taken some punches, but there is still useful football to be played. A composed stretch—one clean drive, one defensive stop and one momentum-changing play—would give the Clippers something positive to build on as the game moves forward.
