There’s plenty on the slate this week across Cumberland sports. Girls soccer looks to build on its win over La Salle, boys soccer faces a major road test at Chariho, and volleyball puts a six-match winning streak on the line. Field hockey has two familiar opponents ahead, football travels to Barrington, and the JV teams have their own busy week. The community action continues with CYSA Soccer Saturday and the Junior Clippers heading to North Providence on Sunday.
All times Eastern and subject to change. Records reflect the available pre-week listings. Unconfirmed details are identified below; additional JV, cheer and unified events have not been verified.
Football
| Day | Team | Matchup | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon., Oct. 5 | JV | Home vs. South Kingstown | 5 p.m. |
| Fri., Oct. 9 | Varsity | At Barrington | 6:15 p.m. |
| Sat., Oct. 10 | JV | Home vs. Barrington | 10 a.m. |
Cumberland (1–3) heads to Barrington (2–2) after a 26–0 shutout of South Kingstown. The Eagles come off a 33–14 win over West Warwick, following losses to Burrillville and Cranston West. Friday offers Cumberland a chance to reach 2–2 in league play. Carrying over the defensive effort and protecting the football are the Clippers’ clearest routes to another win. JV records are not confirmed.
Field Hockey
| Day | Team | Matchup | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon., Oct. 5 | Varsity | At Classical | 6 p.m. |
| Mon., Oct. 5 | JV | At Classical | 7:15 p.m. |
| Wed., Oct. 7 | Varsity | Home vs. Cranston East | 6:15 p.m. |
Cumberland enters at 5–3–2 overall and 5–1–2 in league play. Earlier 4–1 and 1–0 wins over Classical give the Clippers a positive head-to-head track record entering Monday’s league contest. Wednesday’s listed nonleague matchup with Cranston East offers a chance to reverse an earlier 1–0 loss. Creating chances matters; finishing them will be the key to changing that result. Opponent and JV records are not confirmed.
Boys Soccer
| Day | Team | Matchup | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wed., Oct. 7 | JV | At Chariho | 5 p.m. |
| Wed., Oct. 7 | Varsity | At Chariho | 6:30 p.m. |
| Fri., Oct. 9 | JV | At South Kingstown | 4:30 p.m. |
| Fri., Oct. 9 | Varsity | At South Kingstown | 6 p.m. |
Cumberland (4–6–3) follows a 1–1 draw with Portsmouth and a 5–1 win over Tolman with two road games. Chariho (13–0–1) is the biggest test on paper, with recent shutout wins over East Providence and Westerly. A compact defensive shape and efficient finishing give the Clippers a chance against the unbeaten Chargers. South Kingstown (2–3–5) has allowed eight goals in ten games and held Chariho, Portsmouth, Moses Brown and Cranston West to scoreless draws. Friday could turn on a set piece or one clean finish. Both varsity games offer opportunities to improve Cumberland’s league position. JV boys soccer enters at 5–2–2 after three straight wins over Central, Portsmouth and Tolman; opponent JV records are not confirmed.
Girls Soccer
| Day | Team | Matchup | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tues., Oct. 6 | JV | Home vs. Cranston West | 5 p.m. |
| Tues., Oct. 6 | Varsity | Home vs. Cranston West | 6:30 p.m. |
| Thurs., Oct. 8 | Varsity | At Mt. Hope | 6:30 p.m. |
Cumberland (8–1–1) carries its 1–0 win over La Salle into two league matchups. With 27 goals scored and five allowed, the Clippers have built their success on sustained pressure and defensive discipline. Cranston West’s current record remains unconfirmed. Mt. Hope (4–4–3) just beat South Kingstown 5–0 and previously defeated Barrington 3–1. Cumberland also beat South Kingstown, 6–0. The Clippers have the stronger overall record, but limiting transition chances will matter against a capable Mt. Hope attack. JV records are not confirmed.
Volleyball
| Day | Team | Matchup | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tues., Oct. 6 | JV | Home vs. Westerly | 4:45 p.m. |
| Tues., Oct. 6 | Varsity | Home vs. Westerly | 6:30 p.m. |
| Thurs., Oct. 8 | Varsity | At Barrington | 6:30 p.m. |
Cumberland (8–3) enters on a six-match winning streak, including consecutive 3–0 victories over Barrington, South Kingstown and Coventry. Tuesday brings Westerly before Thursday’s road rematch with Barrington. The Clippers have a recent head-to-head advantage over the Eagles, but steady serve reception and limiting free points will help them carry that success into another gym. Both varsity matches count in league play. Current opponent and JV records are not confirmed.
Cross Country
No meet for boys or girls cross country has been confirmed for October 5–11. That does not establish that the teams are idle; weekly meet details remain unavailable.
Tennis
A girls tennis match for October 5–11 has not been confirmed. Cumberland recently swept Westerly 7–0, but this week’s opponent, start time and current records remain unverified.
CYSA

Junior Clippers
Sunday, October 11: the Junior Clippers head to North Providence. Team-by-team start times and records are not confirmed. The varsity Clippers come off a 42–6 win over Lincoln, but North Providence’s recent win over Johnston is a reminder to carry the momentum forward with focus.
