Cumberland stepped up a division for Wednesday night’s trip to Barrington, falling 9–0 in an out-of-division field hockey matchup on October 14. The Clippers held through the opening quarter before Barrington pulled away in the middle two.

Barrington is third in Division I at 9–5, while Cumberland is second in Division II at 6–5–2, behind South Kingstown and ahead of Lincoln. It’s a tough result, but it doesn’t change where the Clippers sit in their own division.

Playing up gave Cumberland more experience against a strong Division I opponent and a clear measure of the level it wants to reach—a timely wake-up call with the playoffs approaching.

Cumberland has two regular-season games remaining, beginning with Pilgrim on Friday, October 16, before closing on the road at Lincoln High School on Monday, October 19. That finale brings added weight: the neighboring rivals currently sit second and third in Division II, and their last two meetings ended in 1–1 and 2–2 draws.
