One goal was enough for Cumberland again. Tessa Nicastro scored the game’s only goal, and Emma Maccio made four saves as the Clippers beat South Kingstown 1–0 Wednesday at Curtis Corner Field. Rebels goalie Harper Rodman kept it close with five saves.
It was Cumberland’s second 1–0 win over the Rebels in eight days, following a shutout at Tucker Field on September 16.
Nicastro has helped provide the offense in a run of close games. The junior scored twice against Classical on September 8 and assisted on the lone goal in another 1–0 win over Classical on September 18. Wednesday’s winner gives her at least four goals this season.
The Clippers entered Wednesday at 4–0 in league play, while South Kingstown stood at 3–1. Both teams are fighting for the top spot in Division II, and Cumberland has won both meetings in the past eight days. Those two shutouts have kept the Clippers perfect in league play while leaving the Rebels just one game above .500 in the division—a big swing in a rivalry where every goal has mattered.
