Central beat Cumberland 20–3 on Senior Night, in a game that was still 3–3 at halftime before the Knights pulled away with field position and one long touchdown run. Brady Smith never got cleared—flu-like illness, severe dehydration and fatigue—so junior David Huftalen III stepped in for a playoff-stakes night. He didn’t flinch, and the team didn’t quit.
Nathan Goodrich jumped on an onside kick, Jayden Rabbitt and Emanuel Reyes fought for yards, and Ino Ortiz ended a goal-line stand with an interception to send it to halftime even.
After the break, pinned deep and forced to defend short fields, Cumberland kept contesting snaps until the scoreline got away.
That’s how some nights go—breaks lean one way, circumstances pile up. It doesn’t rewrite the weeks of work—the showing up, the lifting teammates, the learning to regroup and keep moving forward together.
Thanksgiving now gives these seniors and this roster one more chance to put that response on the field together, in front of people who’ve lived it and people who’ve come back to remember it. One last shot, not to erase, but to add something. One more memory to make.
