CUMBERLAND — La Salle brought size, speed and a physical front to Cumberland on Friday night, and the Clippers spent much of the evening trying to find room against all three.

The Rams established control early and carried it through a 42–0 win on October 16. For Cumberland, coming off consecutive victories, it was a difficult night against an opponent that made the small openings close quickly.

La Salle led 21–0 after the first quarter. Its advantage along the line shaped the game on both sides of the ball, creating room for its own offense while making Cumberland work for every bit of forward progress.

There were pieces for the Clippers to build on within individual possessions. Jayden Rabbitt found yards on the ground, and a completion to Ethan Delgado-Rolland helped move an offensive series along. But a false start, an incompletion and an eventual punt kept that movement from becoming a sustained answer.

Against La Salle, those interruptions were costly. Cumberland needed possessions that could give its defense a break and put some pressure back on the Rams. Too often, the next opportunity belonged to La Salle.

The Clippers still produced defensive plays worth recognizing. A sack interrupted the Rams’ progress. Delgado-Rolland broke up a pass near the end zone and added a tackle that prevented another touchdown. Those plays did not erase the deficit, but each required someone to finish an assignment with the game already moving against Cumberland.

Then the weather supplied a sequence of its own.

A torrential downpour swept across the stadium late in the first half, arriving with wind that sent spectators looking for shelter.

For a few minutes, the storm seemed determined to become the night’s main event. By halftime, it had nearly disappeared. La Salle’s 28–0 lead remained.

The second half brought opportunities for younger players as substitutions worked into the game. Those snaps carry value, particularly for players whose weekly work often happens away from Friday’s spotlight. They got their chance to take that preparation onto the field against a demanding opponent.

For the starters, one difficult result does not erase the progress of the previous two weeks. It does leave work to do.

The next step is getting back to what Cumberland had been doing well: spreading the field, getting its playmakers into space and allowing those opportunities to open up the rest of the offense. La Salle made that difficult Friday. The Clippers will need to find that rhythm again as they prepare for the next opponent.

A tough night at home. Another week to get back to work—and another Friday to put it on the field.
