Six goals on the board. Ten minutes still left in the first half. Cumberland had already put its stamp on Tuesday night.
The varsity Clipper girls put on a clinic against Cranston West, powering their way to an 11–2 victory at home on October 6. Paynter Maher and Miliana Izzo each finished with a hat trick, leading a seven-player scoring effort that turned an explosive start into a commanding finish.
Six Goals Before the Break Was Even Close
Sofia Coburn opened Cumberland’s scoring on an assist from Maher. Izzo then supplied the assist on each of Maher’s next two goals, before Maher added an unassisted finish to complete her hat trick.
Izzo followed with two goals of her own, taking the Clippers to 6–0 with ten minutes remaining in the opening half. That is six goals in the first thirty minutes—and an early statement from an attack finding both the final pass and the finish.
Seven Clippers Find the Net
Maya Garland’s goal took Cumberland to 7–1. Olivia Clary delivered the free-kick assist, and Garland finished with a header—a beautiful setup and finish captured by a sideline reporter. Madeline Coyne and Olivia Lyons also scored, while Viennia DiManna finished a goal assisted by Reagan McSweeny. Izzo added her third to complete her own hat trick and Cumberland’s eleven-goal night.
Maher’s three goals came with an assist on Coburn’s opener. Izzo paired her three finishes with two assists to Maher. Around them, five more Clippers put their names on the scoresheet. The result belonged to a deep scoring effort, with teammates creating chances as well as finishing them.
Sofia Coburn also helped drive the attack with four assists, while Francesca Stoothoff finished with two saves, according to MaxPreps.
Different Game. Same Winning Response.
Four days earlier, Cumberland needed one goal to beat La Salle on the road. Olivia Clary’s corner found Izzo for the finish in that 1–0 victory. Tuesday brought a very different scoreline, but another strong response from the Clippers.
Maher has already delivered a hat trick this season in Cumberland’s 4–1 win over Moses Brown. Against Cranston West, she and Izzo shared that spotlight, while the broader scoring contribution gave the night its defining feature.
October asks teams to keep building toward the postseason. Cumberland answered Tuesday with eleven goals, seven scorers and a first-half burst that left little doubt about who was setting the pace.
