Cumberland’s girls soccer team will look to build on a strong bounce-back performance Saturday when the Clippers host Cranston West.

After suffering their first loss of the season, a narrow 2–1 setback against North Kingstown on September 19, Cumberland responded with a 4–1 road victory over Moses Brown three days later. The win lifted the Clippers to 7–1 heading into their matchup with 1–8 Cranston West.

Cumberland has scored 26 goals and allowed just five through eight games. The Clippers have also recorded shutouts against North Kingstown, Smithfield, Coventry and South Kingstown.

Saturday’s game gives Cumberland another opportunity to maintain its strong Division I start. Cranston West will be looking to change the direction of its season, while the Clippers will aim to carry over the focus they showed at Moses Brown—defending as a unit, creating chances and finishing them.

The JV teams begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the varsity game at 11 a.m. Cumberland travels to East Providence Monday for a 6:30 p.m. varsity matchup, weather permitting.
