One loss wasn’t going to define the Cumberland girls varsity soccer team’s September—and Paynter Maher made sure the Clippers answered loudly.

Maher delivered a hat trick, scoring three of Cumberland’s four goals in a convincing 4–1 road win over Moses Brown on Tuesday afternoon. Her three-goal performance powered the Clippers back into the win column and helped move the team to 7–1.

Three days after a narrow 2–1 defeat to North Kingstown, Cumberland traveled to Providence with an immediate opportunity to respond. Maher repeatedly found the finishing touch, while the Clippers’ defense limited the Quakers to a single goal.

Cumberland had opened its season with six straight victories, including shutouts against Coventry and South Kingstown. The response at Moses Brown showed the Clippers could absorb their first setback, get back on the field and quickly regain their form.

With Maher leading the attack and the team producing another complete road effort, Cumberland’s strong start continues with fresh momentum.
