Two days after lighting up the scoreboard in an 11–2 win over Cranston West, Cumberland girls soccer hit the road to Mt. Hope with a chance to show something else. This time it wasn’t about piling on goals.

The Huskies came in at 4–4–3, but their last result said plenty: a 2–2 draw with a Portsmouth side that had eight wins and an 8–3–1 record after that match. The Clippers weren’t walking into a cakewalk.

Paynter Maher and Shea Maher supplied the finish, with Milana Izzo setting up Paynter. And with goals harder to come by, the other half of the job mattered just as much: keeping Mt. Hope off the scoreboard. Two goals at one end. A shutout at the other. Another road win for Cumberland.
