The Cumberland Clippers girls varsity soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 2–1 at home to North Kingstown in a tightly contested conference matchup.
The Skippers carried a 1–0 advantage into halftime before both teams added a goal in the second half. North Kingstown’s early lead ultimately held up, improving the Skippers’ record to 4–2–2. Cumberland moves to 6–1 following an otherwise outstanding start to the season.
The conference loss could tighten the race around Cumberland in the playoff standings and potentially impact its eventual postseason seed. However, at 6–1, the Clippers remain in a strong position with plenty of season left to respond and continue building their playoff résumé.
