Darryl Ashilaka gave Cumberland the finishing power, Lyla Parmentier kept the offense moving, and the Clippers found answers to Lincoln’s pressure Monday in a 3–0 home sweep, 25–23, 25–19, 25–22.

Ashilaka put away 16 of Cumberland’s 35 kills, giving the Clippers a productive option at the net. Parmentier handled much of the work that created those attacking opportunities, distributing 28 assists. Their contributions reached beyond the setup and swing, too: Ashilaka added nine digs and two aces, while Parmentier came away with five digs, a kill and an ace.

Cumberland had other ways to finish when the ball went elsewhere. Jolee Farquharson and Alexa DiTomasso supplied five kills apiece, and Farquharson’s work at the net also helped turn away Lincoln’s attack with three total blocks—two solo and one assisted. Mia Mercure, Lyrik Thornlimb and Ashley Asermely each added two kills, with Riley Burke contributing one, spreading the production through the lineup.

Behind that attack, Bowie Legend led the effort to keep the ball off the floor. Her 11 digs led Cumberland’s 38-dig defensive effort, giving the Clippers chances to turn defense back into offense. Gulianna Hasenfus and Lacey Dessert each added five digs. Legend also contributed a kill, an assist and an ace.

Dessert gave Cumberland another way to put points on the board from the service line, delivering a team-high three aces. Along with Ashilaka’s two and one each from Parmentier, Legend and Asermely, the Clippers finished with eight. Cumberland had production at the net, behind the block and on serve. Lincoln made the Clippers draw on all of it.

The opening set showed how quickly a comfortable start could turn into a test. Cumberland moved ahead 6–1, but the Lions steadily worked their way back. By 10–10, that early cushion was gone. Four straight Lincoln points after a 13–13 tie then put the Clippers behind, 17–13.

Cumberland worked back in front at 19–18, setting up a finish in which neither side could get much breathing room. The teams were tied at 19, 20, 21 and 22 before the Clippers earned two set points at 24–22.

Lincoln stayed in it. An extended rally, with both sides keeping the ball alive through exchanges at the net and defensive recoveries, went to the Lions and cut the margin to one.

Cumberland took the next point. A set that had slipped four points in the wrong direction ended with a 12–6 Clipper response and a 25–23 win.

The second set gave Cumberland a different assignment: build some separation, then protect it.

After Lincoln pulled even at 10–10, the Clippers moved ahead again. A 15–13 advantage became 21–13 during a six-point run, and Cumberland soon held a 22–14 lead.

The Lions kept coming. Five straight Lincoln points cut the gap to 22–19 and put some pressure back on the home side.

Cumberland stopped the run and took the final three points. The 25–19 finish gave the Clippers a 2–0 match lead, but Lincoln had another push waiting.

The Lions won the first five points of the third set and stretched their advantage to 8–2. Cumberland began working back, only to find itself still trailing 14–9 midway through the set.

Then came the run that turned the match toward its finish.

Seven consecutive Cumberland points erased that five-point deficit and put the Clippers ahead, 16–14. The comeback gave them an opportunity to close the night in three, and they later extended the lead to 20–16.

Lincoln would not make the ending easy. The Lions closed the gap again, eventually drawing even at 22–22.

Three points later, Cumberland had its sweep.

The Clippers won the final three points of both the second and third sets. Across the two sets that reached 22–22, Cumberland took six of the seven remaining points. The production throughout the lineup gave Cumberland ways to compete; its ability to finish turned those chances into a straight-set win.

The nonleague victory improved Cumberland to 13–5 and made it three straight wins, following back-to-back victories against Cranston West. With two road matches remaining in the regular season, the Clippers carry forward another example of recovering when a set gets away and finishing when it gets tight.

Before Monday night’s tilt, RIIL listed Cumberland fourth in Division 1 at 12–5, East Providence fifth at 9–6 and North Kingstown first at 16–0. Next come two opportunities to reverse earlier results. Cumberland visits East Providence on Wednesday, October 28, and North Kingstown on Friday, October 30, with both matches scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Townies took the first meeting in five sets; the Skippers won theirs in three.
