There are Sundays you circle because football is back. Then there are Sundays you circle because Lincoln is coming to Tucker.

The Cumberland Jr. Clippers welcome the Lincoln Lions home on October 4, renewing a longstanding local rivalry with plenty to carry into the weekend. The Junior Peewee offense just found its stride. The Peewee team finally saw weeks of work turn into a win. JV returns after an idle weekend. Across the program, the next step is to bring that progress onto the home field and make it hold up against a familiar rival.

Junior Peewee: keep the offense rolling

Cumberland’s 40–13 win over Burrillville was a response to a 13–0 loss at Johnston. The defense had given the Clippers chances that week. Against the Patriots, the offense started cashing them in.

Luca Demers finished with four touchdowns, and Jack Jodoin added two long scoring runs. Bryce Wilson helped connect the passing game, while John Anderson’s forced fumble on a kickoff created an extra possession that Cumberland quickly turned into points. Big plays mattered. So did the blocks, the ball security and the ability to finish what a drive started.

That is the part to carry into Lincoln: an offense that can produce through more than one player and a team ready to take advantage when special teams or the defense hands it another opportunity. Last Sunday gave Cumberland a strong example of what that can look like.

Peewee: a breakthrough worth building on

The Peewee Clippers enter Sunday at 1–3 after their 37–0 shutout of Burrillville, the program’s first Peewee victory in two years. For a young group that includes 9-year-olds carrying major responsibilities and linemen learning tackle football, the result put something tangible behind the improvement head coach Hector had been seeing.

Royal Vincente scored three touchdowns. Andrew Mayben, Grayson Sen and Bentley Girouard each added one. Harrison Musser, Roland Long, Zach White, Kyrie Alu, Julian Bell and Cristian Chavez helped create the room up front. The defense preserved the shutout, and Cumberland recovered every second-half onside kick, keeping Burrillville’s offense off the field after halftime.

Collin Beaudreault also had two touchdowns called back. Those runs still showed what he can bring. Against Lincoln, cleaner execution gives those kinds of efforts a better chance to stay on the board. The challenge now is to make last week’s confidence part of this week’s preparation.

JV returns; varsity has lessons to carry forward

The JV Jr. Clippers did not play last weekend and return with a chance to find their rhythm at home. Earlier coverage documented an opening win over Oakwood and a 13–0 loss to North Kingstown in difficult weather. Getting back into game speed, communicating clearly and sustaining possessions will be useful places to start against Lincoln.

The varsity group has already shown it can win a tight one, edging North Kingstown 13–12 earlier this season. Its 22–14 loss to Johnston supplied a different lesson after a late lead slipped away. For Sunday, the focus is on disciplined assignments and carrying a complete effort through the final whistle.

The weather looks more cooperative

The Cumberland forecast checked Saturday evening calls for clouds during Sunday’s main daytime hours, with temperatures around 64–67 degrees in the early afternoon. Rain is not currently shown in the hourly outlook during that stretch. After the wet conditions in recent games, that would give players and families a more comfortable afternoon at Tucker. Forecasts can change; check the latest outlook and team notices before heading over.

A familiar rival, a fresh opportunity

Lincoln brings the extra energy that comes with a neighboring rival. Cumberland brings two recent wins that show how much the younger teams have been building, along with groups eager to take their next step.

The players have put in the practice reps. The coaches have kept teaching. The cheerleaders and families keep bringing the sideline to life. Sunday gives everyone another chance to see that work come together at home.

Lincoln Lions. Tucker Field. Rivalry Sunday. Let’s go, Clippers.
