North Cumberland’s boys soccer team gave its regular season a strong sendoff, building a 6–0 lead before turning the game over to its underclassmen in a 6–2 win over Woonsocket.

The North Stars led 4–0 at halftime and added two more goals by the midway point of the second half. The offense had supplied six. Liam Lemire and the defense had kept Woonsocket off the board.

Lemire’s afternoon ended without a goal allowed, carrying another shutout through his time in net before making way for a younger teammate. With North Cumberland ahead 6–0, the starters came off and the underclassmen received their opportunity to gain game experience.

That is another benefit of taking care of business early. The lead created room for younger players to get their turn, giving the North Stars something to take from the afternoon beyond the result. Woonsocket added two goals before the final whistle, and North Cumberland closed its regular season with a four-goal win.

This group has shown it can put goals together. A 9–0 win over Scituate earlier in October was part of a stretch that included five consecutive shutouts. North Cumberland was finding the net while giving opponents very little at the other end.

The season has brought its lessons, too. A narrow 2–1 loss on eighth graders’ night interrupted that run, but the North Stars answered with a 4–0 win over North Smithfield. They had experienced the frustration of coming up short and given themselves a better result to carry forward.

The regular season gave these boys plenty to believe in. They’ve shown punch in attack, steadiness at the back, and resilience when games got tight.

It’s been a special season for this North Stars team. And they’re not done yet. They hope to carry that momentum into the playoffs and keep this run going.
