On the road Wednesday night, Cumberland dropped three hard-fought sets at Classical, 25-18, 25-16, 26-24. But those numbers don’t tell the whole story. The Clippers battled through long rallies and kept finding answers, pushing that third set past 25 before Classical edged it out.
Lyla Parmentier helped connect the offense with 22 assists, while Darryl Ashilaka put away a team-high 14 kills, and Jolee Farquharson added six on efficient hitting. Bowie Legend supplied seven kills and a couple of aces, giving the Clippers contributions from several spots, and that work wasn’t just at the net. Ashilaka and Hasenfus each had eight digs, and Legend added five, part of the push to keep rallies alive and earn another swing.
Team numbers show Cumberland matching Classical in kills, 33-32. But 13 attacking errors and 10 service errors opened the door. Classical got 17 kills from Amaya Womack and 11 digs from Angelina Pham, plus a 7-5 edge in aces.
The result moved Cumberland to 10-5 and Classical to 9-3. Next for the Clippers, Thursday, October 15th at 6:30 p.m. on the road at Cranston West.
There was no hiding from the grind. Three matches this week is a test of legs and focus. Cumberland split the first two, and Thursday is a chance to close that stretch on a strong note. Cumberland made Classical work through every set Wednesday night, and now they turn to Cranston West on Thursday, looking to cap this busy stretch with that same fight and a fresh result.
